This is a Dog's Story.

Our "Show-up" was running the jungle-like back property with our other three dogs. Dusk was approaching and I called everyone home for the evening. "First", "Pants", and "Corky" came bounding out, as usual. With "Show-up's" rotund body and short legs he was always lagging behind.

Soon though, worry set in with no "Show-up" showing up. The summoning, shouting, and urging his name continued with the sunset on it's threshold. Finally, my little boy appeared where I could see him. Barely standing on his three good legs and the fourth dangling like gelatin. Picking him up, we rushed to the house.

Examining the leg, there were no bones sticking out of the skin (which would have definitely required anesthesia and veterinary skills), but it was broken, with a laceration under the thigh. Poultice on the leg and recipe internally by syringe was the treatment. Within 3-4 days he was slowly going up and down the porch's seven steps. In less than two weeks, it was hard to tell anything had been wrong.
